Overview
Trying Boquete for a month or more
Every year, people come to Boquete for a holiday and leave wondering whether they could live here. This guide is for the next step: staying long enough to find out, without signing a lease or buying a house first.
A week in Boquete shows you the scenery. A month or two shows you what it is like to live here: the rhythm of the rainy afternoons during the green season, the bus to David, the supermarket queues, the neighbours, the internet on a stormy day. That is the information you need before you make a bigger decision. It also costs far less to find out with a furnished rental than with a house full of furniture you shipped from home.
Who this guide is for
- Future retirees who have read that Boquete is a top retirement spot and want to test it with their own feet.
- Remote workers looking for a cool, quiet base with decent internet in the same time zone as the US East Coast.
- Snowbirds who want to escape the northern winter for a few months, year after year.
- House hunters who want to know the area before they look at property.

The one piece of advice everybody gives: rent before you buy, and stay through both seasons if you can. Boquete in sunny February and Boquete in rainy October can feel like two different places. Many people love both, but it is better to find out before you commit.
